Sinless Margaritas, Giveaway and Recipe

Yesterday, I had that skin cancer procedure. For me, it was a huge relief to have that behind me but I’m not selfish enough to think that other things weren’t happening in the world. For example, while I was lamenting the band-aid on my face others were celebrating National Tequila Day. I’m sure I’ve made fun of National Donut Day or National Hot Dog Day but Tequila Day? Ole’.

I’m sorry to be a day late with this crucial cocktail information but trust me it’s ok to margarita anytime…especially when they’re healthy margaritas. You know me too well to think I’m going to tout “skinny” drinks but we looked high and low and found something better.  Enter Sinless Margaritas.

Sinless is all-natural and sugar free. It’s 5 calories per serving and sweetened with stevia. If you have margaritas once in a blue moon and want to use simple syrup…ok but if you like to margarita as much as I do (and I do) these are the way to go. They are in the refrigerated section (or available online) because they use real lime and real lemons. And if you want proof that some people have great jobs Zach, one of the Sinless owners, told us “my wife Cat still makes and tastes every batch in our Atlanta headquarters.” Zach- you let us know when Cat calls in sick, we're here to help taste test.

Sinless makes your life easy. You mix 2 parts of their mix with 1 part tequila. I had healthy skin on my mind yesterday and concocted this Sea Buckthorn (thank you to the reader who corrected my spelling of buckthorn) Sinless Margarita. I’ve mentioned sea buckthorn before as a key ingredient for healthy skin and hair; it also has a tart taste making it perfect with a limey margarita.

Sea Buckthorn Margarita
1.5 ounces Sinless Margarita Mix
1oz Sibu 100% Sea Buckthorn (or in NYC Juice Generation makes Sea Buckthorn shots)
Stir to combine and serve over ice
These margaritas come in just over 100 calories.

Zach and Cat didn’t want you to feel left out and so they’re giving away a bottle of their regular and a bottle of their strawberry margarita mix to one lucky reader.

  1. Oooooh, margaritas! My birthday is 5/5, so I've had more than my share of margaritas through the years. The all-time best I've ever had, though, was at Doc Martin's in Taos, New Meixco. I'm a fan of spicy cocktails, and their El Chupacabra (with pepper-infused tequila) is amaaaazing. Cheers!

  2. My favorite marg is also a spicy one, followed closely by the kale margarita at the Wayland on Avenue C. Hundred Acres has a great spicy marg. I bet this would be great with some sort of jalapeño!

  3. What a great birthday. So do I have to go to Taos (on my travel bucket list btw). Love that you remembered the name of the drink.

  4. I love a spicy margarita too Beth but let's talk kale margarita, interesting. The tequila is jalapeno I used here. could also add some cayenne. We mixed Sinless with Organic Avenue's Jalapina juice for a kale/spicy treat.

  5. Interesting, I once had a spicy margarita (in a restaurant, I think it was called "del diablo") and I really didn't like it. But maybe it's worth trying again sometime since that was a long time ago and tastes can change.

I do love margaritas of pretty much every other variety though, so this is right up my alley. What are your overall thoughts on Stevia though? I'm generally anti-artifiicial sweeteners but I'm not sure about Stevia and I'd be interested in your opinions. Would you let your kids have it?

  6. I love the strawberry margaritas at my local mexican place....I'd hate to see the ingredients in them though! this sounds like a nice alternative!

  7. I love the skinny margaritas at a place in KC called Zocalo. My family was recently there the night before my law school graduation and were drinking them by the pitcher. SO delicious!

  8. First, congratulations on graduation. Love the fact that you/family had pitchers of margaritas. Wonder what makes their margs skinny is it the namesake mix?

  9. I know, it's really the sugar content between fruit and syrup or agave, sometimes innocence is bliss (or tipsy).

  10. Thanks! Bar exam is next week, and obviously I'd rather be reading blogs than studying :) They are sweetened with agave...who knows how much "skinnier" they are, but if you can have a great marg and save a few calories, then why not!?

  11. So glad you brought this up Jen. Actually the way to go is less sweet period even if it's honey/maple etc. Stevia to me is safe and fine in one food a day. It's not fine all over your diet as sweet begets sweet. The other issue with stevia is taste, that little aftertaste. For smoothies, I use NuStevia by Nunaturals the best brand I've found.

  12. My favorite margarita's are the ones I make at home. Go for the good alcohol and it tastes much better

2 parts great tequila (I use Patron)
    1 part Cointreau
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
    splash of white grapefruit juice.

Simple, delicious, strong. I guess it qualifies as skinny.

  13. Thanks for the info! I completely agree that less sweet overall is best and that is usually what I try to do when I have control (i.e., when I'm making something myself - I'll just use sugar, or honey, or agave but keep the quantity down). But sometimes I come across bottled beverages or other stuff that is sweetened - sometimes with splenda or, worse, aspartame, but sometimes with Stevia. Good to know that it's not such a bad thing to indulge in those a couple times a week.

  14. Best margarita was at a bar called Maria's in Old Town San Juan. I don't know what they put in them but I felt the need to drink 8 or 9. It was a great day.

  15. Hi Lauren! I'd love to try Sinless Margarita Mix... am not a margarita person yet but I'm on my way. Someone recently introduced me to the Paloma -- tequila, grapefruit juice and a club soda in a tall glass. It's refreshing and it takes a while to drink one (for me) so I'm loving it for summer.

  16. I am interested in the Sinless because I sin quite a bit ;-) And I tweeted - https://twitter.com/RunInBoise/status/360498053502861313

  17. aspiring margarita person- love it. That's a good resolution too. Love a paloma- did a healthy cocktail segment (see a theme) and learned about it, very low calorie and enjoyable. No problem being a "1" woman when it comes to cocktails, a good rule actually. I'm usually a 1-er too.

  18. Love that everyone nails their top margarita experience. First, old san juan is so great did that bias you? 8 or 9? then they weren't super strong. I think I would be buried in San Juan if I had 8 of anything but Maria's will check it out one day. thanks Amber.

  19. love that you have zero sugar/agave anything Randi so yes, that's skinny (and dangerous). Suggestion- combier vrs cointreau (sooo different).

  20. ooh you need some sinless after the Bar, good luck.

  21. Just a few weeks ago I was thinking, "Maybe tequila is just never gonna be my drink," but these make me curious to give it another try. Love that they're sweetened with stevia instead of sugary syrup or, like, aspartame.

  22. on one hand, like the persistence. On the other- as much as I LOVE good tequila I hate to be the booze pusher it sounds like I am...well I guess there are worse things to push.

  23. This place in Providence, RI, Tortilla Flats, has an amazing habanero mango margarita. It's the perfect balance of spicy and sweet and a perfect summer drink.

  25. Thanks Jordan, folks we're covering the country a few more states and we'll have a Margarita Map. Sweet and spicy, the best.

  26. YES PLEASE! I can't remember the last time I had a margarita, which is really sad....I want I want! MY favorite is one with extra salt on the rim :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. ooh whole other question salt or no salt. Marc is salt (I use himalayan) and I'm no salt. Gina- it's summer, we need you margarita-ing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. great, you're in the running.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's been years since I have had one. I usually avoid them because of the giant glasses and the tons of added sugar. But I like the sound of these!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have to say giant glasses scare me too b/c either too much booze or too much sugar. We need portion control with our cocktails too, right?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've never had a margarita, sinless or otherwise...

Crossing my fingers the procedure was painless Lauren! I know you are off to somewhere amazing but hope we can get together sometime soon. :)
